A digital humanities project exploring women artists through spatial data. Exploring how geography shapes artistic networks and historical visibility.

Women Artists &
Geographic Patterns

So we have a ton of data… where's it from?

We began with MoMA’s publicly available collection and exhibition dataset, which provided details about artworks currently on view. To support our focus on geographic patterns, we supplemented this data by researching and adding location metadata, specifically where each artwork was created. This allowed us to more accurately map spatial trends and explore connections between place, gender, and visibility.
